Kaiya Jennings, the daughter of Deborah and Michael Jennings, is a native of Suffolk, Virginia.
On June 10, 2012, she was licensed to the gospel ministry at First Baptist Church, Mahan where Dr. Steven Blunt is the pastor. At First Baptist, she is currently an associate minister charged with the responsibility of working with the youth and young adult ministry of the church.
She is a 2011 graduate from Virginia State University where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology. Kaiya is a graduate of the Samuel DeWitt Procter School of Theology at Virginia Union University, where she earned her Master of Divinity degree. She is also a recent graduate of Boston University where she obtained her second master’s degree in Religion, Culture and Personality in the Spring of 2016.
Minister Jennings has been a dedicated volunteer at Autumn Care Nursing Facility for several years. She has served as a mentor for local organizations in the City of Richmond, where she assisted young girls in the development of self-esteem and self-affirmation. While studying at Virginia Union University, she worked as a student assistant in The Center of Lifelong Learning, where she provided aid to those who wanted to continue their education through a non-traditional avenue. During that time, she also volunteered with Inter-faith groups to encourage Christians, Muslims and Jews to join together in an effort to render community service and random acts of kindness. She was heavily involved with committees and councils across the state of Virginia regarding Early Childhood Education and Community Awareness.
Currently, she is the newly elected and first female Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Baptist General Convention of Virginia, where she is charged with the responsibility of planning and implementing activities for youth and young adults all across the state of Virginia.
Her favorite scripture is John 15:2, “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, so that it will be even more fruitful”.
